Calaboose Museum

The 1891 Calaboose Museum sits on McDaniel Street in Springfield, Missouri. The museum is a part of the city’s history, as this building serves as a police substation and houses a museum. The Calaboose Museum Springfield was opened in 2001 by Johnnie Armstead, a devoted wife and mother of three. She was active in local organizations, serving as a Girl Scout leader and Sunday school superintendent. She also held memberships in historical organizations and was active in the NAACP chapter of Springfield. In 2008, she retired from the law enforcement field and devoted her time to helping preserve the Calaboose.

If you’re planning to visit the Springfield Police Museum, you’ll want to find out the hours and phone number. It’s usually open 6-9 p.m. on the first Friday of the month from June to September. If you have time, you can also visit the museum at any time. Just be sure to make an appointment ahead of time to guarantee admission. The historic Calaboose Jailhouse is the oldest standing building in the city of Springfield, Mo. It was originally built in 1892 and opened in the year 1891. The building was the location of a police station in the city. Its headquarters were on the second floor of a fire station on College Street.
